Velocity Control Strategies to Improve Automated Vehicle Driving Comfort

  Automated vehicles are rapidly emerging as the new generation of transport tools. Relevant research mainly focuses on collision avoidance, lane keeping, and coordination control to ensure driving safety and improve efficiency, with little emphasis on passenger comfort. This paper proposes a set of comfort-based velocity control strategies on the basis of driving safety. Driving comfort was evaluated by multiple accelerometers fixed inside vehicles. Power spectral density analysis and one-third octave band filtering were applied to derive the weighted root mean square acceleration as an evaluation indicator for comfort. The annoy rate model is proposed to describe individual sensitivity to vibration. Field tests were conducted to investigate interactions between pavement roughness, speed, and comfort, and multiple linear relationships were identified. Three typical processes were considered: deceleration phase, uniform speed phase and abnormal occasions. The hyperbolic tangent function was utilized to provide moderate deceleration. Model parameters were set to guarantee maximal deceleration and jerk within acceptable limits. Nonlinear programming was used to balance between rapid deceleration and bumps caused by abnormal obstacles. The proposed strategy can potentially be applied for automated vehicles to improve the perceived quality of automated driving.

Event Detection on Online Videos using Crowdsourced Time-Sync Comment

  In recent years, more and more people are like to watch videos online because of its convenience and social features. Due to the limit of entertainment time, there is a new requirement that people prefer to watch some hot video segments rather than an entire video. However, it is a quite time-consuming work to extract the highlight segments in videos manually because the number of videos uploaded to the internet is huge. In this paper, we propose a model of event detection on videos using Time-Sync comments provided by online users. In the model, three features of Time-Sync comments are extracted firstly. Then, user behavior relevance in time series are analyzed to find the video shots that people are interested in most. Metric and its optimization to score video shots for event detection are introduced lastly. Experiments on several movies shows that the events detected by our method coincide with the highlights in the movies.

PIDMID: an approach for predicting the impact of DNA mutations on PPIs by integrating multi-scale data

  The primary function of proteins is to construct highly selective interactions with their macromolecular partners, also known as protein-protein interactions (PPIs). DNA mutations such as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), may alter binding free energy to deteriorate PPIs, potentially leading to diseases. Although lots of allelic variants have been discovered, the crucial link between these variants and PPIs has hardly mentioned before. Therefore, the identification of possible impact of mutant DNAs on PPIs is an urgent need. Here, it is the first time that by integrating different factors of protein, e.g., knowledge of protein structure as well as sequences, we present an approach to predict the impact on PPIs from DNA mutations. Compared with the previous algorithms for estimating the effect on PPIs of residue variants, our method performs better proved by benchmark results of simulated experiments, and some of our novel predictions are validated by referring to the reported literatures, some demonstrated by hotspots, containing the majority of the binding affinity of PPIs. In addition, we’ve also found that among our new predictions, some PPIs and mutant DNAs are both concerned with the same diseases, which can help explain whether mutated DNA affects PPI from disease perspective.

A Dynamic O-D Estimation and Multi-objective Optimization based Real-time Traffic Signal Control Strategy for Intersections: Combined Model and Algorithm

  As the important input parameters for a real-time signal control model, dynamic Origin-Destination (O-D) flows provide the basis for realizing signal timing adjustment with a short-term traffic flow. In addition, the real-time signal timing variations in an actual network will also influence dynamic O-D flows. Both dynamic O-D estimation and real-time signal control are the significant basic theory of the ATMS that closely interacting with each other. In this paper, dynamic accumulative flows in entering approaches are put forward to consider the mutual influence of signal control and dynamic O-D estimation. The real-time signal control combined model for intersections based on dynamic O-D estimation and multi-objective optimization is built based on the objective of minimizing dynamic accumulative flows in entering approaches. The combined model could improve the effective capacity, reduce the delay, and lessen the stop rates through manipulating signal timing according to variations of real-time dynamic O-D flows. Algorithms of the models were proposed and results of case study could illustrate the validity of the model.

  An Efficient Discriminative Motif Learning Algorithm over High-Throughput Datasets

The tranion factors (TFs) can activate or suppress gene expression by binding to specific sites, hence are crucial regulatory elements for tranion. Recently, series of discriminative motif finders have been tailored to offering promising strategy for harnessing the power of large quantities of accumulated high-throughput experimental data. However, in order to achieve high speed, these algorithms have to sacrifice accuracy by employing simplified statistical models during the searching process. In this paper, we propose a novel approach named Discriminative Motif Learning via AUC (DiscMLA) to discover motifs on high-throughput datasets. Unlike previous approaches, DiscMLA tries to optimize with a more comprehensive criterion (AUC) during motifs searching. In addition, based on an experimental observation of motif identification on large-scale datasets, some novel procedures are designed to accelerate DiscMLA. The experimental results on 52 real-world datasets demonstrate that our approach substantially outperforms previous methods on discriminative motif learning problems. DiscMLA鈥 stability, discriminability and validity will help to exploit high-throughput datasets and answer many fundamental biological questions.

  首先,需要转变学习方式。研究生跟以往我自己所熟悉的学习方式完全不同,大部分时间都在自己寻找可以探索的课题,不断地摸索着前进,这样的方式在一开始会很难,但是一定要坚持下去。

  其次,需要及时地确定自己的研究方向,并且大量的阅读相关文献,做到对研究领域“了如指掌”,然后在此基础上不断尝试,才能取得一定的成果。

  最后,读博的压力太大,在生活上要学会劳逸结合,及时缓解疲劳与压力。
